Where does testicular cancer originate from?
The majority of testicular cancers (approximately 95%) originate from germ cells, which are the cells responsible for producing sperm. Within the testes, germ cells are organized into seminiferous tubules, where they undergo the process of spermatogenesis. Mutations or abnormal changes in the DNA of germ cells can disrupt this process and lead to the formation of cancerous cells. These abnormal cells can either develop into seminomas (which arise from the germ cells) or non-seminomas (which arise from precursor cells that are part of the germ cell lineage). Seminomas are the most common type of testicular cancer, accounting for about 40-50% of cases.Testicular Cancer - Related Articles
