Dermatomyositis Discovery: History and Early Descriptions

The earliest reference to dermatomyositis is in a drawing from China around 1750. In the 19th century, the German dermatologist Johann Christian Jüngken provided a detailed description of dermatomyositis, which he called dermatitis polymyositica, in his book "Die Hautkrankheiten" ("Skin Diseases") published in 1839.
