Is appendectomy the same with laparotomy?
Appendectomy and laparotomy are not the same procedures.
Appendectomy is the surgical removal of the appendix, a small, finger-shaped organ that projects from the large intestine. Appendectomy is typically performed when the appendix is inflamed, a condition known as appendicitis.
Laparotomy is a surgical incision into the abdomen. It is a more general term that can be used to describe any surgery that involves cutting into the abdomen, including appendectomy. However, laparotomy is not synonymous with appendectomy. There are many other types of laparotomies that can be performed, such as exploratory laparotomy, hernia repair, and bowel resection.
