Alcohol After Laparoscopic Appendectomy: Recovery Guidelines
It is generally recommended to avoid alcohol for at least two weeks after laparoscopic appendectomy surgery. Alcohol can interfere with the healing process and may increase the risk of complications.
In particular, alcohol may:
- Dehydrate the body, which can delay wound healing
- Cause inflammation, which can worsen pain and swelling
- Increase the risk of bleeding and infection
- Interfere with medications, such as pain relievers and antibiotics
For these reasons, it is best to avoid alcohol until your doctor clears you to drink. This will typically be at least two weeks after surgery, but may be longer in some cases.
