Eyelid Surgery & Chalazions: What You Need to Know
Eyelid plastic surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, can be performed to remove excess fat, skin, and muscle from the eyelids. However, it is not typically used to treat chalazions.
A chalazion is a small, round bump that forms on the eyelid due to a blockage in the oil glands. It can be treated with warm compresses, antibiotics, or intralesional steroid injections. If these treatments are unsuccessful, surgery may be necessary to remove the chalazion.
During chalazion surgery, the surgeon will make a small incision in the eyelid and remove the blocked oil gland. The incision is then closed with sutures. The procedure usually takes less than 30 minutes and can be performed on an outpatient basis.
