Vitrectomy Preparation: What to Expect Before & During Surgery | [Hospital/Clinic Name]
Before the Surgery
In the days leading up to your vitrectomy, you may be asked to:
* Fast for a certain amount of time before the surgery.
* Avoid taking certain medications, such as aspirin or blood thinners.
* Get a complete eye exam.
* Have blood tests and other tests done to make sure you are healthy enough for surgery.
The Day of Surgery
On the day of your vitrectomy, you will arrive at the hospital or surgery center and be given a sedative to help you relax. You may also be given local anesthesia to numb the area around your eye.
Once you are comfortable, the surgeon will begin the surgery. The vitrectomy is usually performed through a small incision in the white of the eye. The surgeon will then use a tiny instrument to remove the vitreous humor and any other debris from the eye.
After the Surgery
After the vitrectomy, you may experience some pain and swelling in your eye. You may also have blurred vision for a few days.
You will need to take antibiotics and other medications to prevent infection and inflammation. You will also need to wear an eye patch or shield to protect your eye.
Most people recover completely from a vitrectomy within a few weeks. However, it is important to follow your surgeon's instructions carefully to avoid any complications.
