Hydrogen Peroxide: Effective Disinfection & Sterilization Guide
Hydrogen peroxide is a helpful household tool and can be used in many capacities to disinfect and sterilize. Pouring the solution onto a gauze pad and swiping whatever needs to be disinfected is normally enough, but make sure that the area being sterilized is clear of all foreign particles.Things You'll Need
- Hydrogen peroxide
- Gauze pads
- Tweezers
- Bandage
Instructions
Clean out the cut or scrape as best you can using gauze pads. If there is visible debris in the lesion, pull it out with tweezers. You can run the cut under water to flush it out, but often this will reinstigate bleeding from the region. If this happens, apply pressure to the region with a gauze pad until the blood clots.
Pour hydrogen peroxide onto a gauze pad. Gently dab the lesion, making sure not to drag across the exposed surface.
Dress the wound with either gauze or a bandage to prevent bacteria from entering the now disinfected region.
Change the dressing frequently and rinse/clean the wound to prevent infection.
