First Aid for Shock: A 3-Step Guide to Immediate Care
1. Stop or Control the Bleeding
* Apply pressure directly to the wound with a clean cloth or bandage.
*If the wound is on a limb, elevate it above the heart to help slow the bleeding.
*If bleeding can't be stopped by applying pressure, use a tourniquet as a last resort.
2. Restore Breathing
* If person is not breathing, begin CPR immediately and call for emergency medical assistance.
* Monitor breathing and pulse rate.
3. Treat for Shock
* Lay the person flat on their back, or elevate their legs slightly if they have difficulty breathing.
* Cover them with a blanket to keep them warm.
* Give them small sips of water if they are conscious and not vomiting.
* Continue to monitor their breathing, pulse, and blood pressure.
