USCG Approved: Understanding Serviceable Condition for Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs)
In USCG regulations, a serviceable condition for a PFD means that it:
- Meets the requirements of the applicable approval series;
- Is in good and workable condition;
- Is not damaged, deteriorated, or defaced;
- Has not been branded, stamped, marked, or labeled with any non-standard marking or identification; and
- Has been inspected in the previous twelve months and any deficiencies have been corrected.
