Pap Smear: Understanding Cervical Cell Collection & Screening
During a pap smear, cells are collected from the cervix, which is the opening to the uterus located at the top of the vagina. A small, soft brush or spatula is used to gently scrape the surface of the cervix to collect a sample of cells. This sample is then sent to a laboratory for examination to check for any abnormal changes or the presence of pre-cancerous or cancerous cells. Pap smears are an important screening tool for detecting cervical cancer and its precursor conditions.PPOs - Related Articles
