Understanding USCG Requirements for PFD Serviceable Condition

The USCG has no requirement that PFDs are in “serviceable condition.” Some local governments or boat inspectors use this term or may reference manufacturer instructions (which may call for PFDs to be in “serviceable condition”) when making evaluations but the term is not defined in federal guidance.
