Missed Pregnancy Detection: Why a Doctor Might Not See a Baby
It is possible for a doctor not to see a pregnancy during an examination, especially in the early stages.
In the early stages of pregnancy, the embryo is very small and may not be visible on an ultrasound. Additionally, some women may have a tilted uterus, which can make it difficult to see the pregnancy on an ultrasound.
The doctor may also be unable to detect the pregnancy if it is ectopic, meaning that the fertilized egg has implanted outside the uterus. Ectopic pregnancies are rare, but they can be dangerous and require immediate medical attention.
In most cases, a doctor will be able to detect a pregnancy by feeling the uterus for enlargement and by listening for a fetal heartbeat. However, in some cases, it may take several weeks or months before the pregnancy is detectable.
