Cavitron Use: Restrictions for Dental Assistants Above the Gumline

A dental assistant cannot use cavitron above the gumline. Cavitron and ultrasonic scalers are only used during scaling and root planing therapy which are performed below the gumline. Dental assistants are trained to use different dental instruments and their specific purpose. Ultrasonic scalers are used for the removal of calculus, subgingival biofilm, plaque and stains during periodontal therapy.
