Angiography: Understanding the Process & Its Uses

The process of recording a picture of blood vessels is called angiography.

Angiography is a medical imaging technique that uses X-rays to create detailed images of blood vessels. It is used to diagnose and treat a variety of conditions, including:

- Aneurysms (bulges in blood vessels)

- Arteriovenous malformations (abnormal connections between arteries and veins)

- Blood clots

- Narrowed or blocked arteries

- Tumors

- Varicose veins

During an angiography, a contrast dye is injected into a blood vessel. The dye travels through the blood vessels and makes them visible on X-ray images. The images can then be used to diagnose and treat problems with the blood vessels.
