Understanding Hematocytes: Types and Functions of Blood Cells
Haematocyte or hematocyte is a general term for all types of blood cells, namely red blood cells (erythrocytes), white blood cells (leukocytes), and platelets (thrombocytes).
- Red blood cell (erythrocyte): Red blood cells are the most abundant type of blood cell, and they are responsible for carrying oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body.
- White blood cell (leukocyte): White blood cells are less common than red blood cells, and they are responsible for fighting infection.
- Platelets (thrombocytes): Platelets are the least common type of blood cell, and they are responsible for helping blood to clot.
