Pregnancy Tests During Your Period: Accuracy & What to Expect
Taking a pregnancy test during your period is generally not recommended as it may not provide an accurate result. Pregnancy tests are designed to detect the presence of a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in the urine or blood. This hormone is produced by the placenta after implantation of a fertilized egg in the uterus.
During menstruation, the lining of the uterus is shed, leading to the release of blood and tissue. This can dilute the concentration of hCG in the urine, making it harder for the pregnancy test to detect it accurately. Additionally, hormonal fluctuations during menstruation can interfere with the test results.
For the most reliable results, it is generally advisable to take a pregnancy test a few days after your missed period. If you suspect that you may be pregnant and have recently menstruated, it is best to wait until a few days after your expected period ends before taking a pregnancy test for a more accurate result.
If you are concerned about pregnancy or have any doubts, consult a healthcare professional for advice and guidance.
