Vastus Lateralis Muscle
- An IM injection may be given into the anterolateral aspect of the thigh with the knee half flexed.
- The site is located midway between the greater trochanter and the lateral condyle of the femur.
- Insert the needle perpendicularly to the muscle.
Dorsogluteal Muscle
- The dorsogluteal muscle is located in the upper quadrant of the buttock.
- The site is located by dividing the buttock into four quadrants. The injection should be given in the upper, outer quadrant.
- Insert the needle at a 90-degree angle.
Ventrogluteal Muscle
- The ventrogluteal muscle is located in the mid-lateral aspect of the hip.
- The injection site is located below the iliac crest and midway between the greater trochanter and the ischial tuberosity.
- Insert the needle at a 45-degree angle.
Deltoid Muscle
- The deltoid muscle is located at the lateral aspect of the upper arm.
- The injection site is located in the middle third of the muscle, halfway between the acromion process and the lateral condyle of the humerus.
- Insert the needle at a 90-degree angle.
