Revision Stapedectomy: Repairing Complex Hearing Loss
Stapedectomy is a surgical procedure in which the stapes bone in the middle ear is removed and replaced with a prosthesis. In some cases, the stapes bone may not be completely removed or the prosthesis may not function properly, resulting in hearing loss or other complications. In such cases, a revision stapedectomy may be necessary to repair or replace the prosthesis.A revision stapedectomy is a more complex procedure than a primary stapedectomy and carries a higher risk of complications. However, it can be successful in restoring hearing and alleviating other symptoms in cases where the initial stapedectomy has failed. The decision to perform a revision stapedectomy is made on a case-by-case basis based on the patient's symptoms and the findings of a thorough examination.
