Blepharectomy and Ocular Myasthenia Gravis: Indications and Risks
In most cases, blepharoplasty is contraindicated in patients with ocular myasthenia gravis. Patients with myasthenia gravis may present with ptosis, and it is crucial not to confuse age-related upper lid dermatochalasis with ptosis.
In myasthenia gravis, surgery may increase the risk of postoperative diplopia and ptosis. However, with appropriate preoperative evaluation, the careful selection of patients, and a staged approach, successful upper blepharoplasty has been reported in patients with myasthenia gravis.
