Facial Wound Care: A Step-by-Step Guide to Bandaging
Bandaging a face is necessary, if somebody's face has been injured, and you are far from medical care. However, you have to bandage the face properly, or you won't do much good. Only bandage a face if you understand the proper method, or have undergone basic first aid training. Make sure any first aid equipment is clean, to avoid infecting the wound on the face.Things You'll Need
- Elastic bandages
- Gauze
- Tape
Instructions
Open up your sterilized gauze and press it to the wound on the face. Apply pressure to stop the bleeding, as much as possible. Use several layers if the cut is severe, to avoid bleed through. Have somebody else hold the gauze down, as you prepare the bandage.
Unroll a few inches of the bandage and place it under the fingers of the person holding down the gauze. They can hold it in place while you wrap.
Wrap the gauze around the face in a way that avoids obstructing the eyes, nose, mouth and ears. For example, go under the ears a few times and then go above.
Wrap around the gauze holder's fingers, until it is firmly in place. Then they can remove their fingers.
Change the angle you are wrapping, to help apply even pressure to the wound. The gauze should be stopping the bleeding and the bandage should be firmly in place. Ask the person if the bandage is comfortable while you wrap, to avoid wrapping it too tightly.
Rip the end of your gauze off the roll and place it anywhere on the bandages. Use tape to hold the end firmly down.
