Understanding Nightmares During Alcohol Detox: Causes & Relief
Nightmares and other sleep disturbances often occur during alcohol detoxification because alcohol interferes with the body's natural sleep-wake cycle. During alcohol consumption, the brain compensates for the depressive effects of alcohol by increasing its activity. When alcohol consumption stops, the brain goes into a state of hyperactivity, leading to difficulty falling asleep, frequent waking up, vivid dreams, and nightmares. These sleep disturbances can be particularly intense during the first few days of detoxification and gradually improve as the body adjusts to being alcohol-free.Panic Attacks - Related Articles
