MB ChB Explained: Understanding the Medical Degree
The abbreviation MB ChB stands for Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery. It is a medical degree awarded by universities in the United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, and New Zealand. The degree course typically lasts for five or six years, and includes both academic study and clinical placements.
The MB ChB degree is recognised around the world, and allows doctors to practise medicine in most countries. In some countries, however, additional examinations or training may be required before a doctor can practise.
Some universities award other medical degrees, such as the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Science (MB BS) or the Doctor of Medicine (MD). These degrees are equivalent to the MB ChB, and allow doctors to practise medicine in the same way.
