Medicaid Coverage for Circumcision: A State-by-State Guide
Medicaid covers circumcision in the following states:
* California
* Connecticut
* Delaware
* Hawaii
* Illinois
* Maine
* Maryland
* Massachusetts
* Minnesota
* Montana
* New Jersey
* New Mexico
* New York
* North Carolina
* Ohio
* Oregon
* Pennsylvania
* Rhode Island
* Tennessee
* Vermont
* Washington
* West Virginia
* Wisconsin
* Wyoming
In these states, Medicaid will pay for circumcision if it is medically necessary. Medical necessity is defined as a condition in which the foreskin is too tight or too long, which can cause pain, discomfort, or infection. Medicaid will also pay for circumcision if it is requested by the parent or guardian of a child under the age of 18.
In some states, Medicaid may also cover circumcision for cosmetic reasons. However, this is not the case in all states. If you are considering having your child circumcised for cosmetic reasons, it is important to check with your state Medicaid office to see if it will be covered.
