Understanding the Delivery Care Unit (DCU): What to Expect
DCU, short for the Delivery Care Unit, is a specialized hospital department.
The DCU provides support and care for pregnant women from the onset of labor until childbirth. After delivery, new mothers also remain in the DCU until they are prepared to discharge from the hospital.
Pregnant women admitted to the DCU experience care tailored to their needs according to a birth plan they create before or upon arrival. Some key features to enhance comfort within a DCU might include access to birthing tubs and labor pillows or balls.
