Croup in 8-Year-Olds: Causes, Symptoms & What to Expect
It is not unusual for an 8 year old to get croup. While croup is most common in children between 6 months and 3 years old, it can occur in children up to 6 years old. Croup is caused by a viral infection of the upper respiratory tract, which leads to inflammation and swelling of the larynx (voice box) and trachea (windpipe). This can cause difficulty breathing, a barking cough, and a hoarse voice. In severe cases, croup can lead to respiratory distress and require hospitalization. However, most cases of croup are mild and can be treated at home with rest, fluids, and over-the-counter medications.Toddler Health - Related Articles
