Path to Pediatrics: Education & Requirements for Becoming a Pediatrician
A pediatrician is a medical doctor who specializes in the care of infants, children, and adolescents. To become a pediatrician, you must complete the following steps:
* Earn a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
* Take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT).
* Attend a medical school and earn a medical degree (MD or DO).
* Complete a residency in pediatrics, which typically lasts for three years.
* Pass the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) certification exam.
Once you have completed these steps, you will be able to practice as a pediatrician.
