Understanding False Negative Pregnancy Tests: Causes & What to Do
In most cases, a negative pregnancy test is accurate. However, there are some rare instances where a negative pregnancy test can be false. This is known as a false negative.
False negatives can occur for a number of reasons, including:
* The pregnancy is too early to be detected by the test.
* The test was not used correctly.
* The test is expired or faulty.
* The woman has certain medical conditions, such as ectopic pregnancy or a molar pregnancy.
If you have taken a negative pregnancy test but you still think you might be pregnant, you should see your doctor. They can perform a blood test to confirm whether or not you are pregnant.
Here are some additional tips for taking a pregnancy test:
* Read the instructions on the test carefully before using it.
* Take the test first thing in the morning when your urine is most concentrated.
* Wait the full amount of time specified in the instructions before reading the results.
* If you get a negative result but you still think you might be pregnant, repeat the test in a few days.
If you have any questions about pregnancy tests, talk to your doctor.
