Postpartum Period: When Does Your Period Return After Pregnancy?
Menstruation typically returns 4 to 6 months after pregnancy in women who are not breastfeeding. In women who are breastfeeding, it may take longer for menstruation to return, or it may not return until breastfeeding is stopped.
After pregnancy, the body undergoes a number of changes, including the shedding of the uterine lining (menstruation). This process is triggered by a drop in the levels of the hormones estrogen and progesterone, which are high during pregnancy.
The return of menstruation after pregnancy can vary from woman to woman. Some women may experience their first period as early as 4 weeks after giving birth, while others may not have a period for several months or even a year.
If you are concerned about your menstrual cycle after pregnancy, talk to your doctor.
