Menstruation does not occur during pregnancy. When a woman becomes pregnant, the hormonal changes in her body prevent the shedding of the uterine lining, which is what constitutes menstrual bleeding. Instead, the uterine lining thickens and becomes richly supplied with blood vessels to support the developing embryo and later, the fetus.
