Pregnancy at 50 with Regular Periods: What to Know
It is possible but unlikely for a woman to get pregnant at age 50 if they are still having regular periods. Menopause, the natural end of menstruation and the ability to get pregnant, usually occurs between the ages of 45 and 55. However, some women may experience what is known as "late menopause," which is when menstruation continues past the age of 55.
During the transition to menopause, a woman's hormone levels fluctuate, and ovulation (the release of an egg from the ovaries) can still occur, even if periods are irregular. This means that there is a small chance of pregnancy if a woman has unprotected sex during this time.
If you are 50 years old and still having regular periods, it is important to talk to your doctor about your reproductive health and options for birth control if you do not wish to become pregnant.
