Pregnancy Timeline: Estimating Conception Based on Your Period
To determine when you got pregnant, you can use the following methods:
1. Last menstrual period (LMP) method: This method is based on the assumption that ovulation occurs 14 days before the start of your next period. If your period started on June 25, for example, you would count back 14 days to estimate that you ovulated on June 11. This means you would have gotten pregnant around that time.
2. Pregnancy test: A pregnancy test can detect the presence of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in your urine. This hormone is produced by the placenta after implantation of a fertilized egg in the uterus. If you take a pregnancy test and it is positive, this indicates that you are pregnant. Early pregnancy tests can be taken as early as 10 days after ovulation.
3. Ultrasound: An ultrasound can provide a visual confirmation of pregnancy and an estimate of how far along you are. An ultrasound can also detect any potential complications. Early ultrasounds can be performed as early as 5-6 weeks after conception.
It's important to consult with your healthcare provider to confirm your pregnancy and to determine the best course of action for your specific situation.
