Maharashtra Paternity Leave: Government Rules & Entitlements
Yes. The Government of Maharashtra has passed the Maharashtra Civil Services (Leave) (Amendment) Rules, 2018, which came into effect on July 1, 2018, and grants paternity leave to male government employees.
Under these amended rules, male employees are entitled to paternity leave for a maximum period of 14 days within a year of the date of birth of a child. The paternity leave can be taken in one or two installments. However, the total period of leave taken in two installments cannot exceed 14 days.
The paternity leave is sanctioned on production of a birth certificate of the child and a declaration from the employee stating that he is the father of the child. The leave is also granted to male employees in case of adoption of a child.
During the paternity leave period, the employee is entitled to full pay and allowances, as admissible on the date of commencement of leave.
