Plaque: Understanding its Role in Dental Health & Disease
The term that describes the soft deposit of bacteria and bacterial by-products on teeth that can lead to dental decay and periodontal disease is plaque. Plaque is a sticky film that forms on the teeth when bacteria in the mouth feed on sugars from food and drink. These bacteria produce acids that can damage the teeth and gums. If plaque is not removed regularly, it can harden into tartar, which can only be removed by a dentist.Toothache - Related Articles
