IVF After Tubal Ligation: Is Conception Possible?
In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a fertility treatment that involves retrieving eggs from the ovaries, fertilizing them with sperm in a laboratory dish, and then implanting the resulting embryos into the uterus.
If you have had your tubes tied, IVF may still be an option for you, but the process will be slightly different. This is because the blocked fallopian tubes prevent the eggs from being released into the uterus. In order to retrieve the eggs for IVF, a surgeon will need to perform a laparoscopy, which is a minimally invasive surgery that involves making a small incision in the abdomen and inserting a camera. The surgeon will then be able to see the ovaries and remove the eggs.
Once the eggs have been retrieved, they will be fertilized with sperm in a laboratory dish. The resulting embryos will then be transferred to the uterus through the cervix.
