4-Year-Old Teeth: Understanding Baby & Permanent Teeth | Dental Health
At the age of 4 years, toddlers have a mixture of baby teeth and adult teeth. The eruption of permanent teeth marks the beginning of the middle childhood stage of dental development. At this age, the 4-year-old should have:- 20 primary teeth comprising:
- 8 Incisors (front top and bottom teeth)
- 4 Canines (pointed teeth next to incisors)
- 8 Molars (back teeth used for chewing)
- 4 permanent molars: 2 upper molars and 2 lower molars. These are also known as the first permanent molars or 6-year molars since they usually come in around 6 years old.
