Cervical Radiculopathy: Symptoms, Causes & Relief
Cervical radiculopathy is the presence of a pinched nerve in the upper spinal column which is composed of the first seven vertebrae constructing the neck. Pressure extended onto the nerve roots by the surrounding tissues defines a pinched nerve.-
Pain
-
The most obvious sign of a pinched nerve is pain. The stress can be felt throughout the neck and arms and sometimes is accompanied by headaches.
Muscle Weakness
-
Muscle weakness may be present in the shoulders, arms and hands, resulting in a lack of coordination, primarily of the hands. The reflexes may also be hindered.
Numbness
-
The absence of feeling in the neck, shoulder and arms is known to occur. The pressure, being exerted on the nerves, blocks adequate circulation.
Tingling
-
You could experience tingling sensations much like a pins and needles feeling in the arms and hands. The limbs may also feel as if they have fallen asleep, defined as paresthesia by the Mayo Clinic.
Seek Help
-
If these signs and symptoms continue for three days or more and the pain is not responding to pain medication, a doctor should be consulted.
