How to Make Your Own Microwaveable Heating Pad
Microwaveable heating pads are useful the relieve the discomfort of minor aches and pains, from muscle strains to arthritis. Using a few household items, you can make your own microwaveable heating pad that will work as effectively as any you can purchase.Things You'll Need
- Old throw pillow or fabric
- Filler: dry rice grains, dry corn seed, oatmeal, beans or wheat
- Sewing machine or needle and thread
Instructions
Find an old throw pillow, purchase new fabric or gather old washcloths or towels. If you will use a pillow, cut the stitches on one end and remove all filler. .
If using fabric, sew the edges to create a pocket. Leave an opening in one end that will allow you to insert filler.
Pour filler into the pocket you have created, about two-thirds full. This will leave room for the pad to be pliable and soft, and will allow the shape to conform to whatever body part to which you apply it.
Use a sewing machine or needle and thread to hand-stitch the edges shut. Make sure all seams are securely closed.
Place the bag in your microwave and heat to desired temperature. Start with shorter heating times to test the amount needed for desired effect. Adjust as necessary.
