Gabapentin and Shingles: Is There a Connection?

There is no evidence that taking gabapentin can cause shingles. Shingles is a viral infection caused by the varicella-zoster virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox. Although gabapentin can be used to treat the pain associated with shingles, it does not cause the infection itself.
