In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a process of fertilization by extracting eggs, retrieving a sperm sample, and then manually combining an egg and sperm in a laboratory dish. The fertilized egg (zygote) is then transferred to the woman's uterus, where it implants in the uterine lining and continues to develop. IVF is used to help couples with infertility issues conceive a child.
