Understanding Fertility: Conception Before & Around Ovulation
It is possible to get pregnant from having intercourse before ovulation and on the day of ovulation.
In order to get pregnant, sperm must come into contact with an egg. Eggs are released from the ovaries during ovulation, which usually occurs 14 days before the start of a period. Sperm can live in the female reproductive tract for up to 5 days, so it is possible for sperm to fertilize an egg even if intercourse occurs a few days before ovulation.
Having sex in the days leading up to ovulation increases your chances of getting pregnant, as there will be more sperm present when the egg is released. The chance of pregnancy is highest if you have sex on the day of ovulation or the day before. However, it is still possible to get pregnant if you have sex a few days before or after ovulation.
It is important to note that there are many factors that can affect your chances of getting pregnant, including your age, overall health, and frequency of intercourse. If you are trying to conceive, it is important to talk to your doctor to discuss your individual chances of pregnancy and to get advice on how to increase your chances of getting pregnant.
