Should a woman do Kegel exercises after giving birth?
Kegel exercises are often recommended for women after giving birth to help strengthen the muscles of the pelvic floor. The pelvic floor muscles support the bladder, uterus, and rectum. During pregnancy and childbirth, these muscles can become stretched and weakened. Kegel exercises can help to strengthen these muscles and improve urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence, and sexual function.
To do a Kegel exercise, simply tighten the muscles of your pelvic floor as if you are trying to stop the flow of urine. Hold the contraction for a few seconds and then relax. Repeat this exercise 10-15 times, several times a day.
Kegel exercises are safe for most women to do after giving birth. However, if you have any concerns, talk to your doctor before starting these exercises.
