- Dystocia is a more general term used to describe difficult childbirth.
- Embryotomy refers to the surgical dismemberment of the fetus (embryo/calf) within the uterus in order to effect delivery of the fetus.
- Embryotomy is generally performed after attempts to correct the abnormal presentation or posture have been unsuccessful.
