Pregnancy Risk Without Ejaculation: Understanding the Chances
It is possible to get pregnant from intercourse without ejaculating inside the vagina, but it is not as likely as if ejaculation does occur. During sex, pre-ejaculatory fluid, also called precum, is released from the penis. Precum can contain sperm, especially if a man is very aroused or has recently ejaculated. If sperm from precum comes into contact with the vagina, it can lead to pregnancy.
The chances of getting pregnant from precum are lower than the chances of getting pregnant from ejaculation, but they are still possible. In a study of couples where the man used the withdrawal method to prevent pregnancy, 22 out of 100 women became pregnant. This means that about 22% of couples will become pregnant if the man uses the withdrawal method consistently and correctly.
If you are concerned about getting pregnant, it is important to use a condom or another form of contraception, even if you do not ejaculate inside the vagina.
