What is the difference between A and B antigen?
A antigen:
- Produced by the A allele of the ABO blood group gene.
- Composed of N-acetylgalactosamine (GalNAc) attached to a core carbohydrate structure.
- Binds to anti-A antibodies.
B antigen:
- Produced by the B allele of the ABO blood group gene.
-Composed of D-galactose (Gal) attached to a core carbohydrate structure.
- Binds to anti-B antibodies.
