How to Reduce Bad Estrogen in Men
Estrogen is a hormone which directs the menstrual cycle of women. It is also present in men, in small quantities, and is balanced by the testosterone his body produces. When this balance is changed and the levels of estrogen rise faster than testosterone can balance, there can be undesirable side effects such as breast growth, weight gain and a decrease in sex drive. There are medications and lifestyle changes that a man can use to help reduce the level of estrogen in his body.
Instructions
Take a good multivitamin supplement that contains zinc. This mineral has been shown to slow the conversion of testosterone produced by the body into estrogen. A vitamin which contains antioxidants may also help to balance the estrogen produced by increasing the production of testosterone.
Talk to a doctor about prescription testosterone supplements. These supplements contain a type of testosterone similar to the testosterone produced naturally by the body. Once it is synthesized, the testosterone balances the high level of estrogen. These supplements should only be taken under direction from a doctor; bloodwork may be required to monitor the hormone balance as it changes.
Begin a regular exercise routine. At the Fred Hutchinson's Prevention Studies Clinic, studies were performed that show that exercise lowered male estriadol levels. Dieting and weight loss alone did not have the same effect.
