Can you get preg during your period?
While it is uncommon, it is possible to get pregnant during your period. Although most women are less fertile during menstruation, some women may still ovulate during their period. If ovulation occurs and a sperm is present, pregnancy can occur. However, the chances of getting pregnant during this time are relatively low, estimated to be around 0.5% to 3.5%.
For pregnancy to occur, several factors need to align, including the timing of ovulation, the lifespan of the sperm, and the receptiveness of the uterine lining. During menstruation, the uterine lining is typically shedding, and the hormonal levels are not ideal for supporting a fertilized egg. However, if ovulation occurs earlier than expected, and a sperm survives long enough to reach the egg, fertilization and implantation can still take place.
Factors that might increase the risk of pregnancy during your period include having a shorter menstrual cycle (less than 21 days), having an irregular menstrual cycle, or having unprotected sex during your period. If you are concerned about the possibility of pregnancy, it is important to take a pregnancy test to confirm or rule out conception.
