Male & Female Reproductive Ducts: A Detailed Overview
In the male reproductive system, the ducts that lead from the gonads (testes) are called the vas deferens or the sperm ducts. These ducts serve as pathways for the transport of sperm produced in the testes to the penis during ejaculation.
In the female reproductive system, the analogous ducts leading from the gonads (ovaries) are called the fallopian tubes or uterine tubes. Their primary function is to capture the ova (mature eggs) released during ovulation from one of the ovaries. The fallopian tubes provide a site for fertilization, where the ova can interact with sperm that have traveled from the uterus and cervix.
