FSH Levels: Understanding Normal Ranges by Age & Sex | University of Michigan Health
According to the University of Michigan Health System, the normal range for FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) depends on your age and sex.-
Background
-
FSH stimulates the production of eggs and helps regulate menstruation in women and stimulates sperm production in men.
Before Menopause
-
For women who are menstruating, the normal FSH range is 5 to 30 mIU/mL (million international units per milliliter). FSH levels depend on where a woman is in her menstrual cycle. FSH levels peak mid-cycle to stimulate ovulation (release of an egg).
After Menopause
-
For women who are no longer menstruating, the normal range FSH is between 50 and 100 mIU/mL.
Men
-
Normal FSH levels for men range from 5 to 20 mIU/mL.
Considerations
-
According to the University of Michigan Health System, some medications or recent activity or diet can affect the FSH test result.
