Arteriole Contraction & Blood Pressure: Understanding the Mechanism

When the smooth muscle of an arteriole contracts, the resistance to blood flow increases, which in turn leads to an increase in blood pressure. The amount that the blood pressure increases depends on the degree of constriction of the arteriole.
