Fruits & High Blood Pressure: Which to Limit?
Fruits are generally not bad for high blood pressure. In fact, many fruits are good for high blood pressure as they are rich in potassium, which can help lower blood pressure.
However, some fruits that should be limited or avoided if you have high blood pressure include:
- Apricots
- Bananas
- Cantaloupe
- Grapefruit
- Grapes
- Mangoes
- Nectarines
- Oranges
- Peaches
- Pineapples
- Plums
- Watermelon
These fruits are all high in potassium, which can be harmful if you have high blood pressure. Potassium is an important mineral that helps regulate fluid balance in the body, but too much potassium can cause your blood pressure to rise.
If you have high blood pressure, talk to your doctor or dietitian about which fruits you should eat and which ones you should limit or avoid.
